Abstract

At first glance, Michael Sanera's warnings about teachers using the classroom to promote their ideologically driven interpretations of environmental problems seems well grounded. His criticisms are based on the widely shared view that all sides of an argument (or scientific debate) should be presented, that students should be allowed to make up their own minds after critically assessing the evidence, and that students should learn to balance scientifically based proposals against economic consequences. These concerns appear reasonable enough. Indeed, who would criticize his argument that environmental education should not be framed in apocalyptic terms? ...
