Abstract

For Turtle Island's aboriginal peoples, elders play a central role in the mythic meaning of life on the land. After years of life on the land, many environmental educators are themselves now becoming elders. This article partially describes the role of the elder in the making of mythic, environmental traditions representing our experience of lives spent on the land. I argue making mythic meaning is a significant step in both the maturation of environmental education and we, its practitioners.
